Pregnancy Tests

Taking a pregnancy test

A pregnancy test kit can be purchased from a pharmacy. It is advisable to perform this test one to two weeks after a missed period. To perform a pregnancy test, follow the instructions on the box/leaflet of the pregnancy test kit. You should attend your GP to confirm your pregnancy.

How the test works

A pregnancy test is positive when the pregnancy hormone is detected in the urine. The pregnancy hormone, hCG, rises gradually during pregnancy and the hormonal changes during this time may cause some of the symptoms previously outlined.
